Welcome to My Personal Page
Team “The Elainers”
On October 14, I am participating in the CT ALS Association’s Walk to Defeat ALS 2023 as a member of “The Elainers” in support of my friend Elaine Alpert Gordon, who was recently diagnosed with ALS.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time my family has dealt with the devastation of an ALS diagnosis.
Twenty years ago, my brother-in-law Ben got the news that he had ALS. He was 56 years old at the time. He passed away only 9 months later. We were devastated. We still are.
After somehow surviving that loss, I never imagined that this disease would re-enter my orbit in such a personal way. About 4 months ago, my friend Elaine was officially diagnosed with ALS. Elaine is more than just a close friend — she is my family. Our fathers survived the Holocaust and met during the liberation. We share so much history.
This ALS walk — or, "Roll and Stroll," as Elaine has renamed it — is for all those suffering from this disease and their families.
There is currently no cure for this disease. So we’re walking and fundraising to bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To support the caregivers who help their loved one fight this disease. To spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Your support means the world.
Love, Suzanne
——
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
But, we can’t stop now! The key to a cure starts with all of US. Please consider walking with me or making a donation to my team. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
