On Saturday, October 18th I am participating in Walk ALS at Sherwood Island in Westport.  In honor of our dear Mary Beth who was diagnosed with ALS last year, I have formed Team Mary Beth and I invite you to join us at the walk. The walk starts at 11 am, check-in begins at 10 am.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease.  Eventually the body will lose its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe.  Every 90 minutes, a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS.  ALS poses tremendous financial burdens on patients, their families and caregivers, for medical transportation to doctor appointments, specialized equipment such as motorized wheelchairs and communication devices, and hiring aides dedicated to helping the patient with eating and getting around, for example.  Mary Beth can no longer move her arms and hands and speaks with difficulty.
